Passengers, staff and residents of Nsukka, Enugu state, were gripped with fear when armed robbers on Thursday, invaded Peace Mass Transit Park in Nsukka in Enugu State, carting away an undisclosed amount of money.
A staff of the company, who pleaded anonymity, said that the seven-man robbery gang, wearing mobile police uniform, stormed the ticketing office at about 3.28 p.m.
He said that the robbers, who brandished AK 47 rifles, ordered the workers to lie flat on the ground.
“They came with a school bus, belonging to Imilke-Agu Secondary School.
“Three of them entered the ticketing room, searched the lockers where we keep money and removed the money they found there while the others mounted sentry outside.
“The robbers, who wore mobile police uniform, shot in the air several times to scare people,” the staff told NAN.
A Nsukka Office Manger of the company, a retired police officer, who refused to disclose his full names, but identified himself simply as Mr Ogaranya, said he sensed danger when he heard harsh voices asking of the manager’s office.
“They ordered me to lie down and asked me to tell them where money is kept. All of them wore mobile police uniform and were armed with AK47 rifles.
“I do not know how much they collected; all I know is that they collected all the money in my locker.
“I thank God we have moved the money we collected in the morning to the bank,’’ Ogaranya said.
Reports say the traders and artisans who ply their trade at the park, immediately closed shop for the day after the incident.
When contacted, the Enugu State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amarizu, who confirmed the incident, said that police had started trailing the robbers.
“I have been informed of the robbery incident in PMT Nsukka Office today, the Police have started trailing the robbers,” he said

TRUCK CRUSHES 10 PUPILS IN OGUN STATE
Emotions ran high on Wednesday afternoon when a truck rammed into a school building in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, killing no fewer than 10 students, while about 50 vehicles were damaged.
A witness, who was part of the rescue team before the arrival of officers of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, told newsmen that it involved students of Itori Comprehensive High School.
According to the source, the students had just closed for the day and were heading for their homes when the truck rammed into them.
Report says the truck, with plate number LAGOS YZ 628 AKD, was said to be coming from Abeokuta, the state capital, when it veered off the median and ran into the students.
Confirming the incident, Itori Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr. Fatai Bakare, however, said only five students were confirmed dead.
He said the driver lost control and veered off the road before it fell on the school pupils. Newsmen also gathered that the inability of the local government to assist the injured, angered the residents and parents of the victims, who then went on rampage.
The residents of the area unleashed violence on motorists who were caught up in the ensuing traffic, who abandoned their vehicles in a bid to escape the incident. The vehicles, numbering up to 50, were thereafter vandalised.
The development prompted the Police to call for the services of an Amoured Personnel Carrier, APC, belonging to the Ogun State Command to restore order preparatory to the evacuation of victims.
Meanwhile, corpses of victims have been taken to the nearby morgue of the local government, while several injured students were reportedly rushed to Ifo General Hospital.

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed rumour of a bomb explosion at a shopping complex in Lokogoma, a settlement in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Frank Mba, who dismissed the rumour during an interaction with newsmen in Abuja, described the unfortunate incident as false alarm.
Mba said that no case of bomb explosion was reported in or around the FCT, noting that investigations by security operatives had indicated that the incident was a mere fire outbreak.
“It is unfortunate that some people have gone to town to report that it was an explosion; it was a mere fire outbreak at a shopping complex in Lokogoma.
“Reports reaching us showed that the fire, triggered by an electrical fault, started from a laundry shop at the shopping complex.
“It was also said that part of the building was razed by the fire and the explosion.
“The big sound that caused the false alarm came from the compressor of the air conditioning system at the shop, ”he said.
Mba also said that no lives were lost in the incident except for the property contained in parts of the building razed by the fire.
He urged residents of the territory to disregard the rumour and move on with their legitimate businesses, assuring them of police’s readiness to protect their lives and property.
The police spokesman, however, advised property owners to always provide safety equipment in their buildings and to ensure strict adherence to safety precautions and to avoid similar occurrence in future.

Students to sue okorocha over free education
The National Association of Imo State Students (NAISS) may sue Governor Rochas Okorocha for allegedly deceiving them with his administration’s free education programme.
Rising from its meeting at the weekend in Awka, the Anambra State capital, the Senate of the association, led by its President, Comrade Celestine Uzoma, said what the governor is giving them is an educational aid and not free education.
The students said Okorocha deceived the world when he announced at the Hero’s Square in Owerri, the state capital, that he had issued cheques to traditional rulers for indigenous students to collect under the free education programme.
They added that the announcement was false.
The students said: “If education was free, why are students paying N50,000 acceptance fee and an additional N20,000, which accompanies the so-called free education cheque?
“There is nothing like free education in the state. The governor is dodging the bursary allowance as a state under the Niger Delta development Commission (NDDC). If he is offering free education, he should redefine it and also involve students’ leaders before implementation. This is because it affects us.”
